Facebook is the most used social networking site on the  Internet. It was established by Mark Zuckerburg in 2004 and since then it is growing very fast. The interface and the applications available on Facebook are interesting which attracts a lot of users. In spite of its popularity, Facebook also has some drawbacks like downtime, worms etc. Facebook has record number of visitors in comparison to other social networking sites. The popularity of Facebook is so high that every one including various organizations and brands want to collaborate with Facebook. They could not get such a bigger platform to advertize themselves.

Facebook has so many nice applications and functions; one of them is “like” function. It was launched in April 2010 on Facebook page and after that it became all-encompassing feature of Facebook. The “like” function was an extension of fan pages. It became very famous and there was speculation about misuse of this function. And very soon the first report of exploitation came; it was from Sophos antivirus. The spam includes pictures and videos of attractive girls. People easily get attracted to these messages and when you click on the message, it will navigate you to another page and give you instruction like “click to continue”. They are also not mentioning that after doing this step, you will “like” the page but turn into auto generated spam links. This dirty trick was manage by using invisible page sized publish button, which user clicks when visits the page.

In October 2010, some media reports said that the “Like” worm is still spreading. As we seen the current version of this worm says” This girl killed herself after her ad posted this photo!”. when you click to see the photo, the page will say that the announcement will be made on user page. It spread like chain reaction. It will be link as many spam links as many click you have done on the page.

We are still not seeing any action from Facebook regarding this issue, may be they rae unable or unwilling to do this. This may be due to wide social area network both on and off Facebook website. But they can do the same thing as done in e-mails they can provide a waning saying” be careful about what links you click on, because doing so will only spread the infection.

One more cause of Facebook ignorance can be the less harmful nature of “like” worms. They are not so damaging like virus and Trojans. As we think, the main goal of this worm is to spread itself through wide social networking network. The main designer of this worm Fbhole.com vanished quickly because of the phone call from F-secure. They called to the head quarter in Czech Republic and identified themselves as anti-virus officials. But in near future it can harm computer users and the easily exploited nature of “like” button is main worry for us.
