Does your SkyDrive looks like a jumbled collection of videos, family photographs, business and personal documents, music files, and more? Do you always wish to sync only important business documents to your office computer, but end up syncing all that’s stored on your cloud? Now with Microsoft’s recent update, you can sort out this mess and keep your files and folders in complete control.
Microsoft has finally launched its much-awaited Selective Sync feature on its popular cloud storage solution that empowers you to selectively sync files and folders of your choice. With this new addition, you can store all your files, folders, and documents in your SkyDrive, but sync only the folders of your choice to your laptop, your tablet, or your personal computer, while syncing the entire set with your desktop. So, while your business computer focuses only on work-related documents, your personal laptop can focus on music and video files for your entertainment.
The feature is simple to set up and use. All you need to do is to go to the SkyDrive’s desktop program’s settings menu to discover the selective syncing options. However, this update is limited to the Windows desktop application only and is not a feature of the Metro-style app or any other mobile version of SkyDrive.
Also, In addition to selective sync feature, SkyDrive has also made it easier to share SkyDrive content from the Explorer. So now you want to share files, folders, documents, and photos with your friends and loved ones by simply right-clicking onto the SkyDrive folder from your desktop and selecting ‘Share’. Your default browser will open SkyDrive.com and from there you can share your files and folders with everyone you want.
Microsoft has also updated its Windows Phone 8 and Android apps. Windows Phone 8 updates include enhanced visual appearance, ability to search for files and folders, and improved controls for photo upload and download sizes. While updates for SkyDrive’s Android app features support for all types of files from SD card, custom sort order view, and the ability to rename files and folders.
How long do you need for all these updates to be active? Not much, as the updates will be available to the mass within 48 hours.
