Indian IT firms have turned truly global by creating job opportunities not only in India but also in the US. According to a report published by Live Mint, companies such as Infosys and Wipro have started programs in the US to retrain unemployed workers in technology skills, which will help them to get a job. The Wayne County Community College District of Detroit, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, entered into a partnership with Infosys to provide technical training in Detroit, Michigan.
Infosys started an eighteen week software bootcamp for which candidates were chosen through a written test and an interview. Among the many people who benefited from this initiative by Infosys was Sam Blue, an automobile insurance salesman who had lost his job in September 2011. He enrolled for a six weeks software development training program and got placement at a job fair. Earlier in November 2011, Wipro also offered employment opportunities to Iraq war veterans in the US.
