What seems to be an extraordinary development in the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 arena, is that you will be able to watch the games on your mobile phone i.e. only if you have a 3G connection on your mobile phone.

This news comes in the wake of the recent 3G spectrum allocation to companies like MTNL and BSNL, which shall be able to provide 3G connections to millions of users in India. When contacted by, the secretary general of the Commonwealth games organizing committee, Lalit Bhanott told us that, users will not only be able to watch live video feeds on the 3G mobiles, but also be able to use applications such as maps, tourist guides and much more, that are specifically designed by the games committee.

What’s even more exciting is the factt, this is the first such sporting event that will be broadcast live on any mobile phone.  Through this technological leap, users will be able to watch the games live and keep an update of the total medals that are won by each country.

The Commonwealth games committee expects around hundred thousand tourists that will be visiting the country specifically for the games venue. In order to cater to their needs the games committee has designed various online applications such as tourist guides for popular destinations that are to be visited by tourists.

As New Delhi gets ready for hosting the Commonwealth games this year on 3 October, various efforts are being made by the organizing committee on the technological front to cater to the need of the public.
