DIY Solutions to Fix Error Code 0x800F0906

Solution 1: Toggle The Group Policy Settings

The error can come up where the computer has been set up to use Windows Server Update Service (WSUS) instead of the update server alone during servicing. This can create a conflict with the Settings.

In such a case, contact the System Administrator to turn in the group policy option. It will specify that the Settings are used for optional component repair and installation.

You can choose the option to connect the Windows update to repair the content or configure the alternative source file path.

  1. To configure the group policy setting, press Control and the key to search bar.
  2. Type in Settings. The option to change the group policy options will show up
  3. Toggle the search menu and find the administrative templates or search through the list
  4. Go to Administrative templates and expand the bar.
  5. Identify the option where you can specify settings for installation of third party components and repair them
  6. Click on enable button
  7. If you choose alternative source path file, select a path that consists of shared folders that have content of \sources\sxs folder. The path can be found in the installation media.
  8. If the above option is not possible pick WIM file
  9. To pick the file as an optional source file location, add the prefix WIM
  10. Check if the error is now resolved.

Solution 2: Use The Installation Media

  1. You can use the installation media for Windows as the file source when you allow the .NET Framework 3.5 Setting. Once the installation media is running on the system, open Command Prompt in Admin mode and run the following command:
  2. Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename: NetFx3 /All /Source:<drive>: \sources\sxs /LimitAccess
  3. Check if the error is now resolved.

Solution 3: Check Internet Connectivity

This is one of the most common reasons for this error code.

  1. Try to connect to Microsoft Update service
  2. If you are unable to do so, contact the network administrator and check internet connection
  3. Check if you are still facing any issue with the network
  4. Now check if the error is resolved.
